Mitch Cairns - The Reader's Voice

The Reader's Voice is a new book by Mitch Cairns, compiling over 100 of his recent collages and produced on the occasion of his 2015 exhibition at Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne.

Through Letraset, Zazzle stickers, drawings, concrete poems, texts and other loose riffs, Cairns’ collages employ an economy and clarity in their ruminations on time, life, his literary heroes, politics and language (with the odd foray in French, a dialect he does not speak.)

The Reader's Voice is appropriately sober in form: collages are reproduced in monotone at 1:1 scale and sewn together in an A4 sized, 232 page softcover book. Like an oversized paperback, the book is arranged for sharp eyes and the vision-impaired; works are untitled and pages unnumbered, the reader assisted through the book by an impressive bookmark, also featuring a collage by the artist.
