Skopje Walkie Talkie

Skopje Walkie Talkie: Roam the city and talk about it. This book, edited by Susanne Hefti and Damjan Kokalevski, deals with current social changes in the Macedonian capital and shows how public space is instrumentalised in the course of populist and nationalist power structures. With the aim of creating a new, glorious identity for the city and for the estimated cost of 680 million euros, numerous new buildings were built there within a short space of time. Architectural knowledge from the 1960s and 1970s, the reconstruction of Skopje after a serious earthquake, however, was overwritten or destroyed, so that the younger new buildings are already ruinous today.
